Description About the Author

Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.

Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever.

In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant, The Shack wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read to this book!

The Shack is also available in audio book format.

Michael W. Smith"The Shack is the most absorbing work of fiction I've read in many years. My wife and I laughed, cried and repented of our own lack of faith along the way. The Shack will leave you craving for the presence of God."
Michael W. Smith, Recording Artist

"This book has the potential to do for our generation what John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress did for his. It's that good!"
Eugene Peterson

Wynonna Judd"Reading The Shack during a very difficult transition in my life, this story has blown the door wide open to my soul."
Wynonna Judd, Recording Artist

"This story reads like a prayer—like the best kind of prayer, filled with sweat and wonder and transparency and surprise. If you read one work of fiction this year, let this be it."
Mike Morrell, Zoecarnate.com

This is truly one of the best I have ever read.  I came away with a totally revised perspective on life and "religion".  I would (and have) recommend it to everyone I know!

The Shack has changed my walk with God!!  Words cannot express my love of this book.  I recommend this reading to anyone who has a need to have a closer relationship with God.  If you want a best friend to talk to, this book will show you how to be intimate with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  I would like to add that since reading "The Shack" I've recommended it to many different people in my small community.  Each and every person has had the same response, WOW!!  This is a book that can be read over and over and each time something new and positive will touch your heart and soul as it has mine.  (working on my 3rd reading).

Young is presenting a refreshing aspect of God which could heal many who deem Him as an old, insensative, judgmental, mean tyrant with a big stick-divorced from our pain and in some cases, causing it. Despite some awkward sentences and obvious theological loopholes, the work is riveting. I love the message of forgiveness which I believe is a universal problem with most people-save and unsaved alike. It is FICTION - and vastly creative. Young really kicks down our sacred cows in this work.

Changed my View of God June 17, 2008
Reviewer: Valeda VanDerSande from Polson, MT United States
I was loaned this book which I quickly devoured and returned.  I then purchased one, and read it slower.  I then read it to my Bible Study class at a local nursing home.  At each reading I came face to face with Jesus as fully human AND fully God.  I hadn't known that I had only look at Jesus as God.  I now know Jesus went through all I go through and He is with me in ways I now can appreciate.  Thank you for this book.

This book gives new perspective on EVERYTHING June 14, 2008
Reviewer: Tina Pecheos from Graham, WA United States
... and perspective is everything!  As you read you can not stop yourself from being drawn into this man's journey.  And after possible efforts to reject it all, (I slammed the book shut a couple of times) if you continue, you will find yourself now on the same journey.  A Journey I promise you'll be thankful you took.  Thank you, Papa, Sarahu, Jesus & "Willie"
